I am seeking information as to how to successfully install Adaptive Server Small Business Edition on a virtual Linux server. I understand that SBE licensing is bounded by physical capabilities of the machine it is to run on. In this case, the "base" machine (also Linux) can install and run SBE just fine. If wanting to install on a virtual linux machine underneath that base linux machine instead, I am blocked by several issues. I see that sysamcap must be run on the base machine and the produced SYBASE_SAM_CAPACITY value must exist in the environment for the virtual machine where attempting to run SBE. However, when attempting this process I am blocked from success with the message: "SySAM: The SYBASE_SAM_CAPACITY licensing capacity setting is not intended for this system. This machine partition or virtual machine does not appear to be part of the machine from which the SYBASE_SAM_CAPACITY value was obtained." Has anyone successfully navigated installation and use of SBE on virtual linux systems? I need to know this for pre-Edge environments, but I am also interested in knowing whether the new Edge replacement for SBE works successfully in the virtual Linux machine environments. Thanks.
