Fresh installation of ASE 16

Following error appears at the end of instalation.

What I have done:

1. Uninstall/install again

2. Install using root account (sudo)

3. start srvbuid from hand having ase_js.rs file filled in as described in Note 1943692:Alternative way to configure ASE Job Scheduler - using resource file To proceed with installation I have dropped database and device:

drop database sybmgmtdb

exec sp_dropdevice sybmgmtdev

Instalation always fails.

Could someone help?

Hi all,

During the upgrade process form 15.0.3 ESD 4.2 to 15.7 SP 132 we received following error performing the server upgrade:

The current database versión '15030' is lower tan the server´s versión '15700', and the server is configured to require updrade permission. Boot the server with flag '--upgrade-ok' to permit this boot.

Is this a dataserver option? Where can I put this option?

We're looking at some errors after we attempted to upgrade to Sybase 16

and the preupgrade check program reported these warnings (Which perhaps need addressing).

How do we find out if these constraints are used ?

sp_depends returns "... no objects reference it " for all our partition constraints in sysobjects not just the ones above.

They don't appear to be just warnings as we got error messages like this

     Execution of unknown type ptncond_1502885640_0 failed because of errors parsing the source text in syscomments during upgrade. Please drop and      recreate dbo.ptncond_1502885640_0.

How do you drop a constraint if necessary ?

BTW, All the paritions in this db are

I have to move data from a legacy system that contains tables with column names that are reserved words in ASE (like "key").

There is no problem defining replication definition for the columns as long as the column names are kept in quoted identifiers. But as soon as DSI gets a transaction on a column which is a reserved work in ASE the connection breaks down (with a message like "incorrect syntax near the keyword "key" - or any other keyword).

Setting the dsi_quoted_identifiers to on has no effect.  Putting the column names in brackets on REPDEF level causes havoc in RS.

Any idea how to work around this mess? 

There is a quite nasty way of changing the column names on the replicate side and in replication definition and changing again when the switch is done - but it is toooo nasty - especially since I need RS to work in both direction without much delay.

Ideas?  Configuration tweaks?  Known workarounds?

Do we have any explanation why APFs on an APL vs DOL(newly created tables almost same ratios etc in the optdiag) tables with the same table structure in the same environment show rather big differences?

The only difference maybe is that an APL table has a cluster index but the query is select * from table with a full table scan or select min(col1)

Hi Experts,

Is there any way to check the status of archiving log or any command to check the same in Sybase_ASE like in Oracle?I understood that status of the database in Sybase can be checked by looking at the database option 'tunc log on chkpt'. If this option is enabled it indicates the archiving log mode of the database is enabled else not.

Please help me over this.

Details: We are using ASE 15.7 at oor end.

rep server crashed suddently and I am uanble to start the rep server below is the error

Replication Server failed with fatal error while allocating memory. Most likely, there is not enough memory. Replication Server is going to abort.

i tried increasing the memory_limit from 4G to 10G also set sqt_max_cache_size and dsi_sqt_max_cache_size but no luck

this is sort of production please help urjent.

As many of you probably know, SAP has changed quite a bit the way ASE product is licensed.  Those who do probably remember this image - released about a year ago by SAP.

Platform & Edge editions are quite a nice addition to ASE license basket.

However, a thing not so straightforward - although no less attractive - with Platform edition is that it comes with IQ & RS cores interchangeable with ASE cores.

A thing even less straightforward is that... RS comes with ASO and HVAR license included - and IQ comes with VLDB and ASO packed in!

Now, I do not know what you thing, but I think this is awesome.  IMO this pretty much obsoletes requesting separate ASE/RS/IQ licenses (unless there is a specific feature not covered by PE - e.g. IMDB/ECDA &c).

I'm loving it.  Hope you too...

We are running under ASE 15.0 SBE in a Windows with a total of 8 cores (2 Chips * 4 Cores)
We will move to ASE 16.0 We need to know if the EDGE edtion will fit our Business requirments.

We need some clarification about the matrix

Max CPU is unlimited and MAX cores = 4

that means i can use only the 4 total cores or 4 cores per CPU?

Also about the Replication Server included

if i buy 4 Cores i will aslo need to buy 4 cores for the StandBy Server or they will be also be included.

We upgraded this weekend to Sybase 16 and open client 15.7 and now our excel queries are converting any column of type money in Sybase containing a negative value to a very large number in excel as currency.  Positive values are not changed and appear correctly when pulled back in to excel 2010;   Note this worked on Sybase 15.0.03 and open client 12.5 prior to our upgrade

We have a very wide table (will call it A)

which I'm looking at splitting into 3 tables each with the same PK and each partitioned in the same way

called AVP1, AVP2, AVP3

I then create a view over the 3 tables joining them with an outer join

create view ANEW

as

    select ...

    from      AVP1, AVP2, AVP3

    where   AVP1.Col1 *= AVP2.Col1

    and       AVP1.Col2 *= AVP2.Col2

    and       AVP1.Col1 *= AVP3.Col1

    and       AVP1.Col2 *= AVP3.Col2

with some data in AVP1 and AVP2 but AVP3 is empty.

Selecting 987 rows out of the view

     select <only cols from AVP1>  from ANEW where Col1 = "ABCDEF"

I get odd statistics....

Table: AVP1 (VP1) scan count 1, logical reads: (regular=64 apf=0 total=64), physical reads: (regular=0 apf=0 total=0), apf IOs used=0

Table: AVP2 (VP2) scan count 987, logical reads: (regular=36 apf=0 total=36), physical reads: (regular=0 apf=0 total=0), apf IOs used=0

Table: AVP3 (VP3) scan count 987, logical reads: (regular=1974 apf=0 total=1974), physical reads: (regular=0 apf=0 total=0), apf IOs used=0

I get large amounts of IO on an empty table whereas the table which actually has some data only shows 36 page reads.

All tables are partitioned using the same criteria - yet I'm getting 2 pages per row read from an empty table.

Can't make out why ?

hi everyone. i am completely new to this blog so please correct me if i break any rules. we have a 15.5 ASE server using the process model (not threaded kernel).

we have a linux server with 20 cpus and 20 "sibling" cpus (hyperthreaded). on this box we have 4 ASE servers and 4 backup servers. the ASE servers are configured as follows:

../SB1DB02AR7_DS.cfg: max online engines = 10

../SB1DB02AR7_DS.cfg: number of engines at startup = 3

../SB1DB02BR7_DS.cfg: max online engines = 10

../SB1DB02BR7_DS.cfg: number of engines at startup = 4

i have a developer who wants me to add 2 more engines to on of the server bringing the total to 17 at startup. what i want to know is what to i have to consider with today's technologie to make this decision ? we used to just assume you can allocate as many engines as you want as long as you leave 1 for the each backup server and 1 for the OS. is this correct anymore ?

Do we need to install SDK(software developer's kit) explicitly from SAP Service Market Place before installing ASE 15.7?

Which among the below patches I should have before installation?

Are the first and the second patches same?

What is the exact patch name I have to download from Google? (Found MFC security patch update but I am not sure as I don't have experience about these patches)

I am intended to install SCC along with ASE 15.7 so in the open client section while installing any other open client apart from SCC has to be selected?

Is this the right way and the correct object I am downloading from SAP SMP w.r.t ASE 15.7 on Windows7 professional 32 bit?

    Selecting software downloads after entering support.sap.com, selecting databases option in the left hand side, selecting Adaptive

    Server Enterprise, Entered the credentials, selected database option, selected SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise, selected SAP            Adaptive Server Enterprise 15.7, selected Installation, selected the OS as Windows, selected the object 51044414 from the list ( is it             the right object), entered credentials to start the download

Please help me with your valuable answers on the above. Will be highly anticipating.
