Not able to connect to Sybase Database using crystalreport for VS 2013

$

Hi ,

We are trying to connect to Sybase database server 12.0 through crystal reports for VS 2013 and getting a database login failed error.

Please find the machine and package details below

Machine - Windows Server 2012 R2 64-bit
.NET Framework -  .Net 4.5.2
Crystal Report for VS - CRforVS_13_0_12
Crystal report runtime - CR 13.0.16 64-bit runtime
Sybase ASEOLEDB driver - Sybase ASE SDK version 15.7 SP133 (ASEOLEDB provider 15.7
)

The Sybase ASEOLEDB Provider is registered as 64-bit and the ASEOLEDB provider has both 32-bit /64-bit data access components installed but only 64-bit is registered by default.

Oledb_dsnregeistry.jpg

The  crystal report decision for VS 2013  is all 32-bit

crystalreport.png

I am trying to connect to Sybase DB from the crystal report designer by providing the data source information and getting the below error.

step1.jpg'

step2.jpg

step3.jpg

I am not sure if the issue is due to missing connection information or if its a mismatch between 32-bit crystal decision and 64-bit ASEOLEDB registered .

Could you please help me on the issue.

Thanks,

Kalaivanan G

Good Day,

I got this information on ASE 15.7  certification for Linux x86_64:

Red Hat 6.x

Adaptive Server Enterprise        RHEL6.5(x86_64)             15.7 ESD4.2        Certified               2014-12-15

Adaptive Server Enterprise        RHEL6.5(x86_64)            15.7 SP120(x64)    Certified               2014-01-29

Adaptive Server Enterprise        RHEL6.4(x86_64)            15.7 ESD4(x64)     Certified               2013-03-22

The question is if RH 6.7 , and 6.8 are also certified for  15.7?

Thank you

Special Characters in ASE Passwords

$

Hi,

I've been looking into special characters in ASE passwords and from what I am aware the special characters parameter was included from ASE 15.7 and above.

I have figured out how to set this parameter and upon investigating which special characters I can use I found KBA 2246903.

The problem I am finding is that some if not most of the special characters in the KBA are not accepted in ASE passwords. I managed to only get the underscore to work (still have not tested all).

Could somebody shed any light on which special characters they know for sure are accepted in ASE passwords?

Thanks,

Nick Sahota.

2k Unit - How to calculate

$
0
0

Hi experts,

I have a question.

In Sybase ASE we have a lot of 2k units.

But what does it mean?

For example the parameter 'statement cache size' is in 2k in our system with 51200.

So 2k means 2048, right?

And 2048*51200 = 104857600, so around 104MB.

Is this calculation correct?

Kind regards

Global Temporary Tables in ASE 16

$
0
0

Just found a really useful feature in ASE 16 (but oddly I can only find 3 lines of documentation in http://help.sap.com/Download/Multimedia/zip-ase1602/SAP_ASE_Whats_New_en.pdf)

Here's what I've found.

Essentially, you can create a definition of a temp table. The actual underlying temp table will get create as you insert into it and will be local to the session.

eg create global temporary table x (i int)

insert into x values ( 10 )

From this session, "select * from x"  shows

i

-----------

          10

but from other sessions, x will be empty.

Looking at the query plan gives

       |   |   |SCAN Operator (VA = 0)

       |   |   |  FROM TABLE

       |   |   |  ##x

       |   |   |  Table Scan.

       |   |   |  Forward Scan.

Here's sp_space for 2 sessions both having inserted into table "x"

##x990371100127 1               128 KB          16 KB           0 KB            112 KB

##x990004000109 2               128 KB          16 KB           0 KB            112 KB

Am sure there are a few cases where this is useful but I think the main one is for communication between Client code and DB.

Using the ADO Client code, the connection pool is awkward when using temp tables. You never know if there are temp tables left lying around (Sybase or ADO won't clear them up), so we have to check if the temp table exists first and then create it if it doesn't and truncate it if it did exist.

Using global temp tables, we know the table always exists, so we can just truncate table (we can't assume its empty as its the connection pool) and insert into it.

[We looked at Table Variables to do this, but with a thousand rows in a table variable, the performance nose-dived]

Caveat: You can "create" indexes on the "global temp table" but they have no effect. If you try and force the index, it will say it doesn't exist.

Guys, I don't know who is responsible for this interface at SAP side but could you please change its time-out policy?  It is very inconvenient to work on cases using this site (or to work on KBAs) when your session times out every couple of minutes and you have to reconnect.  Moreover, why timing out sessions that open articles and notes?  When you work on a case it is quite common that you locate relevant information using the KBA search and keep the articles open - sometimes for a couple of days.  It is very inconvenient and counter-productive to have all this information made inaccessible after the session times out.  I'd suggest the general time-out to be increased to 24 hours and the sessions displaying KBA articles not to be timed out at all.  Is it doable?

Thanks.

hi all.

if we convert all of our servers to ASE 16 would it be a horrible waste to leave the 2k page size ? if we make all the servers 4 k pages,

them what do we do if we have to load a 2 k dump from the past for existing sla's  ? we have to keep one 2 K server spinning forever ?

along these lines, any "gotchas" that other folks have experienced going from 15.5 to 16 ?  thanks.

How to Repair the System Table Index ?

$
0
0

Please follow the below steps to repair the Index :

1. Get the object name, object ID, and index ID of the corrupted index.

2.  If the corrupted index is on a system table in the master database, put the Server in single-user mode using -m option as below :

startserver -m -f runserver_file

3. Connect to server using isql with a user having sa_role.

4. If the corrupted index is on a system table in a user database, put the database in single-user mode :

1> use master

2> go

1> sp_dboption database_name, "single user", true

2> go

1> use database_name

2> go

1> checkpoint

2> go

5. Set the configuration parameter to allow updates to system tables:

1> use master

2> go

1> sp_configure "allow updates", 1

2> go

6. Run the sp_fixindex command as below :

1> use database_name

2> go

1> sp_fixindex database_name, object_name, index_ID

2> go

7. Run dbcc checktable to verify that the corrupted index is now fixed.

1> dbcc checktable(object_name)

2> go

8. Disallow updates to system tables:

1> use master

2> go

1> sp_configure "allow updates", 0

2> go

9. Put the database in Multiuser Mode :

1> sp_dboption database_name, "single user", false

2> go

1> use database_name

2> go

1> checkpoint

2> go

10. If server started in single user mode, Please shutdown and then start the server in Normal mode (without using -m option).
